Keep duration short—loops under ~6 seconds feel cute; 60 seconds feel hostile.

GIFs can get large quickly—prefer MP4 for quality when the platform allows.
GIF is an uncompressed format for its frame data. A 30-second high-resolution GIF can easily exceed 100MB, which would crash most browsers and load slowly for users.
GIF supports 1-bit transparency (fully transparent or fully opaque). Complex semi-transparent shadows from your video will likely flatten or become aliased.
Reduce combined FPS and Scale. A 240p GIF at 5 FPS will be significantly smaller than a 480p GIF at 15 FPS.
