Video Bitrate is the amount of data processed per unit of time in a video. It is typically measured in Mbps (Megabits per second). A higher bitrate usually means better image quality but requires more bandwidth and storage space.
The two main ways to manage bitrate are CBR (Constant Bitrate) and VBR (Variable Bitrate).
Your required bitrate depends heavily on your Resolution (e.g., 1080p vs 4K) and Frame Rate (30fps vs 60fps).
Moving from 30fps to 60fps doesn't necessarily double the bitrate requirement, but it usually requires a 40-50% increase to maintain the same visual clarity per frame.
Finding the right bitrate is a trade-off between image quality and 'buffering' risk. If your bitrate is too high, users with slower connections will experience constant loading. If it is too low, fast-moving scenes will look pixelated or 'blocky'.

Only up to a certain point. Each codec (like H.264 or H.265) has a point of 'diminishing returns' where increasing the bitrate further doesn't provide a noticeable improvement in visual quality, but just wastes bandwidth.
For YouTube live streaming at 1080p 60fps, a bitrate between 4.5 and 9 Mbps is recommended. For Twitch, the limit is typically 6 Mbps.
H.265 is roughly 50% more efficient than H.264. This means you can achieve the same visual quality at half the bitrate, or much better quality at the same bitrate.
